5 Eating Habits To Improve Your Digestion
What you eat, how you eat and when you eat.
These are the three main factors that affect your digestion.
You must maintain a balance between them always. If either of them goes out of balance for a long time, you may suffer from upset stomach, gas, heartburn, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, or some other critical digestion problem.
So here are some ways you can eat right and maintain good digestion.
1.Eat healthy fats and fibre

Healthy fat foods like coconut milk, full-fat milk, coconut oil, mustard oil (sarso), groundnut oil, sesame oil (til) and ghee help in proper absorption of nutrients from your food. It keeps your digestive organs healthy and decreases the risk of inflammatory bowel diseases too. Moreover, adding fibers to your food can make your stool smooth and help your digestive track keep the process going. Some foods that are rich in fibres are oats, legumes (faliya), whole grains (sabut anaj), nuts, and vegetables.
2.Consume plenty of water

You can do this in two ways- drinking water directly and eating more water-rich foods. You should drink about 8 glasses of water per day, which is around 2 litres. Also, add foods like cucumber, tomatoes, melons (tarbooz & kharbooz), oranges, and sweet lime (mosambi) which have a high content of water in them. It will help you maintain healthy levels of fluids in your body and prevent constipation.
3.Eat properly

There are a few eating habits that can help you eat in the right manner. For starters, you should eat slowly and chew properly. It breaks down food into smaller parts and increases nutrient absorption, which makes it easy to be digested. Additionally, the more you chew, the more saliva gets mixed with your food in your mouth. Saliva helps to break down the food in your mouth into carbs and fats and helps it pass smoothly.
4.Avoid late-night eating

Your body needs time to digest food. So you should wait for at least 2 hours to go to bed post your dinner. Moreover, lying down immediately after eating can cause heartburn as the contents of your stomach may rise up.
5.Limit smoking and drinking

Smoking can almost double the risk of acidity. It has also been associated with more serious problems like stomach ulcers. Even excess consumption of alcohol has been linked to acidity, heartburn, stomach ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding. Therefore, limiting smoking and drinking can help. An even ideal option would be to quit.
If you following these habits, you will be able to see results within 15-30 days. Also, keep in mind that you will have to follow them consistently, even after your digestion improves. Because, as we mentioned at the beginning, any imbalance in what you eat, how you eat and when you eat can cause problems in the future.
